The new java implementation of Microsoft’s network protocol CIFS was released by Alfresco provider of Content Management System of the same name under GPL: JLAN provides a CIFS server as well as CIFS client and is being characterised as an “embedded virtual file system” by Alfresco which supports various authentication methods (e.g. Kerberos) and works on Windows, Linux, MacOS X, and Solaris.
